312 inducted in the 2016 Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund's In Memory program for those who returned from Vietnam only to die due to their service. They died in Vietnam, but their bodies didn't know.
The Memorials must be seen on foot: group them into 2 or 3 at one visit; then take a meal break or save some for another day. The sites are also beautiful at night with ample lighting. -- Green Guide
Rolling Thunder Ride For Freedom ends at the Vietnam Memorial. A truly incredible event. The Saluting Marine, a big part of Rolling Thunder, has a great story. Mehr erfahren
Beautiful Vista, great to see the names of so many that have fallen. Tons of veterans visit, so it's always a great way to get to know the sacrifices some have made.
Look for the little symbols next to the names. A diamond means they died. A cross means they were Missing In Action and a filled in cross signifies that they were MIA but later found
Designed by Maya Lin while a student at Yale (for which she received a 'B'). More than 150K objects have been left here over yrs including Harley Davidson and tiger cage. Full site history here<LINK> Mehr erfahren
Don't touch or move the memorials placed at the foot of the wall. These pieces are preserved and cataloged by the Smithsonian for "The Price We Pay" Exhibit at the Museum of American History.
Keep your voice down, control your children and walk by the wall in awe. Also, if it's raining or the ground is still wet, the walkway can get pretty slippery.
vvmf.org: learn how to add name of Vietnam Veteran to Memotial Wall - the names of those who died post-war, but a as result of it (ie: SDC/USMC Capt, in 2004)
The black granite wall was constructed as a place of healing and reconciliation for the families, friends and supporters of the more than 58,000 slain or missing soldiers.
Powerful memorial. A diamond means they died. A cross next to the name means they were lost. If it has a circle on the cross means they found them. No name has a circle next to it...
Designed by Maya Lin and completed in 1982, the two black granite walls are 246’9’’ long. Names on the walls are of servicemen KIA or MIA listed in chronological order. See video for more info. Mehr erfahren
I make my annual photojournalistic pilgrimage here every year during Memorial Day weekend + Rolling Thunder. Amazing people & moments to shoot & meet. See me there!
The memorial currently consists of three separate parts: the Three Soldiersstatue, the Vietnam Women's Memorial & the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall, where over 58,000 names are engraved.
Do not just walk by it and say this is another monument. Stop and look at your image and imagine that you are part of the wall. Do it you will understand!
Каждая строчка на этих плитах это несколько жизней 18-летних американских пацанов, отправленных к черту на куличики ради невнятной цели. Вечная память погибшим героям!
58,261 names, missing denoted with a cross: if their death is confirmed, a diamond is superimposed over the cross. Directories are located on nearby podiums so that visitors may locate specific names.
