One of my favorite art museums in the South East/Mid Atlantic. Make sure to start on the top floor and work your way down.

Fab place to host events. Lovely grounds, amazing buildings, landscaped grounds. At The Leadership Summit, the Governor, Lt. Gov & Senator have an attentive audience. Great appetizers & cash bar.

With a collection of art spanning 5,000 years, the VMFA is one of the top comprehensive art museums in the US. The museum’s collection includes the largest public collection of Fabergé outside Russia.

The outdoor grounds are fun to explore. Currently the Tibetan exhibit is a fascinating tour of Buddhism as if one was going through the process of enlightenment, it was a great experience.

Their Horseshoe burger was very good. I especially liked the way they seared the outer edge of the burger crisp while leaving the inside of the burger tender.

Must visit. Very well organized museum; surprisingly eclectic collections. Rodin exhibit excellent. Easy to maneuver through the various collections. Requires two, three days to fully explore.

The permanent exhibit of Medieval European Art is in a quiet, less traveled corner of the museum. Nonetheless, the objects on display are powerful, substantial and beautiful.

Free, unless you want to check out their special exhibit (which you probably will). The in-museum food options are also quite good for the price.

In1919, Judge John Barton Payne, a prominent Virginian who held high offices in law and national politics, donated his entire collection of 50 paintings. VMFA did not open until 1936.

Make sure if visiting with children you visit the art education wing. They have hands on for the children.

In the Medieval/Middle Ages exhibit, I felt a surprising constancy of human endeavor (born or propelled, I think, by faith) that was not belied by the traumas and tribulations of those dark centuries.

love the spaciousness of the new place. really want to try amuse, but they are booked up on thursday nights til mid june. however the bar is first come first serve and begins serving drinks at 2 pm. t

Parking is $5 but admission is free for the main exhibits. Special exhibits are a separate fee. Before or after your visit, enjoy lunch in nearby Carytown.

Excellent collection of furniture, jewelry and accessories from the turn of the century on the third floor. (Definitely go if you love Art Nouveau!)

Your best deal is a membership. The Best Cafe is an inexpensive place to go for Friday Art and Wine as well as VMFA after Dark

Definitely check out the 20th and 21st century section of the museum. It has a great variety of different types of arts.
