Perfect blend of high quality and low stress. Relaxed environment, and great execution from full dining to casual bar menu. Excellent cocktail list (especially the Penicillin) and drink specials.
Grab a seat at the bar and get some Brussels Sprouts to begin. The cheese burger with smokey fries was excellent. Carefully crafted cocktails are absolutely worth it if you see something you like.
Ume is creative Northern Californian cuisine, using Japanese ingredients -- one will enjoy the food more if not expecting authentic Japanese cuisine. Like the tasty Umeboshi-glazed pork ribs.
The BBQ chicken thigh with yuzu kosho is perfect. Cocktails are fantastic, try the barrel-aged Ember. Ramen needs lots of work, and won't satisfy ramen fans for $17, yet.
The falafel flatbread was amazing, but stay away from the mac n' cheese - it was no good. Be sure to order a beer and a shot combo to get the most bang for your buck!

Daniel is going yet another new direction. Annoying for regulars. He says Japanese food like this is what Oakland wants. We shall see. Try the fried chicken and ramen. Delish.
the food and drinks were good, but the service was not great. the bartenders were kind of rude, which was a bummer, cause the food was pretty good and they had a great drink menu.
It has potential but it's expensive and the food you get isn't justified. $12 for a veggie burger without fries? I don't think so. Very Limited wine list and beer list, which ultimately turns me off
