In the mid-1800's, founderPeter Cooper, used his success to build The Cooper Union to give access to education to the children of immigrants and working class families.
The CU Library is not open to the public. We provide services to CU and to students & faculty from institutions with consortial agreements with CU (primarily NYU and The New School).

The Cooper Union Library is a private academic library, located on the ground floor of the landmark Foundation Building of The Cooper Union, founded in 1859.
