Fantastic museum. Tells the story of the Naval history of the Civil War often not told. Really worth a visit. Great for students as well.

The CSS Jackson was an Ironclad ship. While made out of mostly wood, the outside of the ship, above the waterline, is reinforced with iron plating to provide "clading." Watch this video for more info. Mehr erfahren

Very informative. They have a pirate festival every year around October and it's so awesome.

Opened in 1962, the National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus displays the wooden hulls of two Confederate gunboats that had been destroyed near the end of the war to prevent enemy capture.

Notice charred smell of the 150 year old, 225 ft, burned, sunken and recovered ironclad: Jackson.
