Superb examples of communist architecture on this street. Cafe sybille on same street holds a permanent exhibition about the renovation of the buildings into "wedding cake palaces". Worth the walk!
Built along with the Haus des Lehrers as an ensemble from 1961-64 as Kongresshalle. The building offers transparency, clear forms and many interesting architectural details.
The special feature is an encircling frieze entitled Our Life by Walter Womacka. It shows representations of the social life in the GDR & is one of the greatest works of art in Europe (7x125m).

These buildings interrupt the wedding-cake-style, because a monumental neoclassical coliseum (Deutsche Sporthalle) had stood here since 1951. It was torn down in 1971 because of structural damages.
