Gorgeous architecture! We went on a Sunday. Tour guide Matt was extremely knowledgeable AND he even had all answers to the elder generations questions, which were much more advanced. I will be back!

I love this building, especially the star on the top. From far you can't see "Texas" word, but if you see it closely you can read "Texas" word around the star. Must visit place in Austin!

There are a lot of interesting things to see here! I recommend the self-guided tour as you'll see a little more that way. If you want some history though, listen in on a tour guide.

The Texas State Capitol sports a sunset-red granite dome topped by the Goddess of Liberty. This icon, finished in 1888, towers even higher than Washington DC's Capitol. Watch this video for more info. Mehr erfahren

Morbid fact: The painter of the star inside the dome fell when his seat broke while painting. He shattered the floor, which was, at the time, made of the glass tiles that you now see in the library.

When the Capitol building was constructed, they were competing with the US Capitol in size. The floor under the dome marks who has owned Texas. Get a tour and walk around with your camera!

If you haven't done it, you MUST stand in the center of the rotunda, look up, and speak softly. It is the most awesome your voice will ever sound! You don't need to speak loudly.
