The ICA was founded in 1947 as a ‘playground’ for contemporary artists, and moved here in 1968. It hosted Damien Hirst’s first solo show and the debut London gig of Franz Ferdinand.
The Bankside Power Station was built as a ‘cathedral of power’ in 1963, but closed in 1981. It reopened as one of Europe’s finest modern art galleries in 2000. The Turbine Hall is 35m high.
You definitely want to get hold of the info booklet, or you're just looking at artfully arranged junk. The Richard Wilson room at the back is spectacular...in a stationary, gloopy way.
Unsold pigs were given to St. Anthony's hospital from this market in the 12th Century. When seen wondering the streets you were obliged to feed them. They grew to great sizes and were worth a fortune
